Losing Stomach Fat Only - Is There A Way To Just Lose Stomach Fat?

If you are otherwise skinny and are plagued with stomach fat you may be looking for advice on losing stomach fat only without losing fat from the rest of your body. Unfortunately, the way the human body is designed it is not possible to target just one area to lose fat. However, the good news is that it is possible to lose your stomach fat by lowering the amount of fat your body stores.

Stomach fat poses some serious health risks for both men and women alike. Carrying extra fat around your stomach can increase your risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes and certain types of cancer - more so than carrying fat in other parts of your body. Because of that it is very important to lose any extra fat that you are carrying around your middle.

Stomach fat is actually a bit more complicated than it might at first appear. There are two basic types of stomach fat - subcutaneous fat and visceral fat. If you reach down and grab your stomach you can probably get a pretty good handful - or at least a pinch - of fat. This fat that you can see and feel is called subcutaneous fat and it is located under your skin out where you can touch it.

Because subcutaneous fat is that fat that you see when you look in the mirror it might seem like it is the fat that is causing the problem. However, the fat that increases your health risks actually lies deeper inside your stomach. Buried deep inside you there is a second layer of fat called visceral fat that surrounds your organs and is hidden away where you can't see or touch it. Visceral fat is the type of fat that has been linked to increased risk of heart disease, diabetes and other health problems. It is easy to not notice visceral fat because you don't have to look at it everyday, but it is very important to your health to lose it.

The good news is that you can lose both subcutaneous and visceral fat and reduce your health risk significantly simple by losing weight.

Although you may be interested in only losing stomach fat, as I mentioned before there is really no way to just specifically target your stomach. However, if you carry most of your fat in your stomach area, as soon as you start losing weight your body should naturally start to draw energy from those fat reserves and your stomach will begin to get smaller.

There are many incorrect ways to lose weight that can actually do more harm to your body than good. When losing weight you need a program or diet that allows you to lose fat without losing your muscle tone as well - this is especially important in the stomach area since your stomach muscles work hard to help you through the day.
