Diabetics need to diet to lose weight in order to stabilize their metabolism so they can maintain their blood glucose levels. In this case they need to eat more fiber and avoid fatty foods. By eating moderate amounts more frequently, they can function better both in their work and social lives when dieting for success. As Hippocrates stated some 2400 years ago; "just as food causes chronic disease, it can be the most powerful healer.
Some people are Gluten sensitive. Celiac disease damages the absorptive surface of the small intestine and is caused by Gluten inherent in some foods. By monitoring this, some people who have failed at almost all other diets, have found themselves steadily losing weight. Gluten is found in grains such as wheat, barley, and oats. By eliminating these foods and switching to rice, their progress in dieting for success has increased dramatically.
To some morbidly obese people the only alternative is gastric bypass surgery. This is an extreme measure, but is sometimes necessary when all else fails and there is the inevitability of an early death. However, even in this case, the patient can live a normal life by watching their diet and again eating smaller, more frequent portions.
Then there are the usual diets which focus on minimizing calories, carbohydrates, and fatty foods, These sometimes need to be approached with a grain of salt when dieting for success.
Your body needs a certain amount of calories to function normally. Calories build the muscles needed to exercise, which in turn, will naturally burn off fat when you are dieting for success. By going overboard and rejecting too many carbs, you will lose weight. However, this weight loss will be mainly muscle, rather than fat. Also if you eliminate all fatty foods, your system will panic and start hoarding food, slowing down the natural metabolism.
