Meal Replacement and Exercise - Do I Need to Work Out on a Meal Replacement Diet?

In this article let's talk about meal replacement and exercise. Lots of people who are starting a meal replacement diet want to know if they are supposed to work out! Is it sufficient JUST to diet on one of these programs....or do you need to augment the diet with lots of motion, movement and heavy lifting? It's a GREAT question, and one that is often misunderstood due to the nature of this particular weight loss approach. Read on as we look a little closer.

Meal Replacement and Exercise: Lighting the Landscape

First, you need to decide what your PURPOSE is in starting a meal replacement diet. Why? Well....some folks actually start one of these programs to put ON muscle, rather than take it off! Many replacement programs are predicated on HIGH protein and muscle mass creation, rather than caloric restriction....and if you DON'T know the difference, you could be headed for a problem! Obviously, if you are on eating to add mass, you DO want to exercise regularly, including lots of weight training to boot.

Meal Replacement and Weight Loss: The REAL fat fighting solution

Most of us start one of these programs for weight loss! In the case of a diet like Medifast for example, exercise is NOT necessarily as important for weight loss as it may be on another diet.
Why? The Medifast meal replacement program is SO low in calories (about 1000 per day) that you are almost GUARANTEED to lose weight, even if you don't move your body much! It is of course, ALWAYS recommended that you do exercise whenever possible - if for no other reason than it WILL make you feel great about yourself, plus it's a really healthy habit too!
