The first step in how to get your body to burn more fat is to change your eating habits. Buying direct from farms is also almost always a less expensive alternative than stocking up on organic food at the grocery store.
Besides the local farmer's market there are several options available to get local healthy products-not just fruits and vegetables but also seeds, honey, soaps, cheese, meat, milk, and crafts. To find Community Supported Agriculture and what farms are in your area try exploring the Local Harvest website. If you can't find what you need locally, they have a great store that profiles wonderful products from small farms around the country.
We all know that home gardens are the best way of giving back to the Earth while reaping the bountiful reward of fresh veggies. Now is the time hardcore gardeners start drinking in the beautiful seed catalogs and planning what to plant and where. Know, however, that where you get your seeds truly matters. There is a difference between quality-not just in the success rate of what you sow but also in the nutritional quality of the food that grows and also the resposibility the seed company shows to the community. Bowflex has long been known for their unique approach to strength training. However, whether they are making headway into the basic exercise and weight loss market will be the focus of the following review.
Bowflex Revolution's Approach and Its Intended Benefits
The thing that originally put these guys on the map was its departure from the use of actual weights (as with most all-in-one machines) and its development of a cable and flexible-bar system to provide resistance. Now, with the Revolution, the company has come up with an even newer approach through the use of "discs" and resistance coils. Still, the goal seems to be the same for the Bowflex machines: strength training. A wide variety of routines are possible with the Revolution; however, these may be more focused on building up and toning muscle than on providing a generalized, calorie-burning, cardiovascular workout.
Negative Aspects
As already mentioned, probably the biggest issue that will keep the average dieter from investing in a Bowflex Revolution is its attention to muscle training. However, it should also be noted that at nearly $3000, this product does not provide an affordable and simple means for daily exercise.
Would I Consider Purchasing This Product?
The price tag alone would probably keep me from seriously considering such a purchase. Even so, this machine does not seem to be clearly designed to facilitate the kind of exercise regimens most commonly associated with basic fat reduction. Simple workout routines and good eating habits form the basis of an effective weight loss program. Some dieters have also successfully augmented such efforts with supplements that have been shown to increase fat burning potential and suppress the appetite.
What People Think
Unfortunately for Bowflex, there are a number of negative user reviews posted on the internet regarding the Revolution. These reviews point out issues such as poor construction and workout capabilities which are short of what users had been inclined to expect. Lose Your Love Handles and Improve Lung Capacity

Kirsten WhittakerTake a deep breath - if you have a little extra belly fat about the middle; doing this might be harder for you than for someone with a trimmer waistline, which makes the effort to lose your love handles all the more important - this according to a recent large-scale, population based study conducted by French researchers that appears in the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine.
We've all heard that a larger waistline puts you at risk for a variety of health problems - to say nothing of how it makes you feel - now there's proof that being big around the middle can affect your lungs, and not in a good way...
The research relied on 120,000 men and women (recruits at French clinics between 1999 and 2006) and was looking for an association between lung function and metabolic syndrome.
Metabolic syndrome is a collection of risk factors (cholesterol problems, high blood pressure, insulin resistance) that come along with those extra inches around the midsection.
Anyone with metabolic syndrome is at increased risk of coronary heart disease or type 2 diabetes - estimates currently have over 50 million Americans with this dangerous condition.
For the study, abdominal obesity was categorized using well-known boundaries...
A waist circumference larger than 35 inches (89 cm) for women; 40 inches (102 cm) for men was considered in the abdominally obese range. If you'd like to take your own waist measurement, just for fun, grab a tape measure and:
1) Find your upper hipbone, from there the measurement should be taken just about one inch above your navel.
2) Holding the start of the tape measure in place, bring the remaining tape around your abdomen using firm (but not enough to compress the skin) pressure. Be sure the measuring tape is straight, and lying flat all the way around.
3) You waist measurement is the number where the measuring tape you've put around your waist crosses over the starting point.
The participants in the study had physical exams, blood tests, waistline measurements, tests of lung function and reported on their smoking status.
Subjects who had metabolic syndrome were almost 1.4 times more likely to have impaired lung function as well.
But unexpectedly, those with extra belly fat were twice as likely to have problems with breathing - even if their overall weight was normal.
What's more, this decreased lung capacity was independent of smoking history and even overall BMI.
The link remained even after the researchers excluded subjects who had cardiovascular or respiratory diseases.
It appears that the abdominal obesity has an impact on breathing that we are only just beginning to recognize.
Even woman with a waist measurement at the 35 inch mark had an 8% drop in lung capacity.
The leader of the study, Dr Natalie Leone of the French National Institute for Health and Medical Research, explains, "We found a positive independent relationship between lung function impairment and metabolic syndrome due mainly to abdominal obesity."
The next step would be to study the underlying biology of the decreased lung function in those with larger waist measurements.
Today researchers are just beginning to understand the link between abdominal fat and trouble breathing.

Crunches during CommercialsMake the most of that TV watching time and during commercials instead of getting up to grab a snack, do a set of crunches to strengthen your mid section and lower back. Crunches have been shown to be the best and safest exercise you can do for your abs and you don't have to spend any money on some new fandangle product.
Push-ups during CommercialsOn the next commercial break do some push ups. Here is an exercise that is very basic but very good for the upper body and the heart. Again push ups are free to do and require no equipment so you have everything you need right now to get a good upper body workout.
Yard WorkWe all hate to do but it must be done. Did you also know that it could be a good form of exercise? Well it can with the bending and pulling, planting and raking, digging and sweeping. Put all of these tasks together and you get a great form of cardiovascular activity.
House CleaningNo need to stop exercising from yard work if it is raining outside; just move that idea to the inside. Vacuuming, sweeping and mopping the floors, cleaning the windows to making the bed are all great forms of exercise. Laundry needs to be done? Great! Talk about good exercise. You are lifting, bending, and stretching. Everything you need in a good exercise program.
As you can see there are no lifer altering decisions that need to be made here to get some exercise in. You just incorporate what you are already doing into a daily routine and you can get plenty of exercise. Don't let TV or bad weather deter you from staying healthy. Now eat a bit healthier and you will be well on your way to success.

That is why there is such a thing called "weight loss fitness program". These programs are not just focused on the amount and types of food an individual eats, but also on the amount of physical activity an individual does daily. Any health or fitness expert would tell you that a proper diet COUPLED WITH exercise is the best way to lose weight. Also, it is not about eating less. Rather, it is all about eating healthy, thus, staying fit.
Weight loss fitness programs are based on the notion that an individual would lose weight if he or she would eat healthy and exercise regularly. The great thing about weight loss fitness programs is that they are long-term. They are not designed for drastic weight loss in a short period of time. They are primarily for losing weight, staying healthy and fit, and preventing weight gain in the future.
Other than losing weight, a weight loss fitness program that involves regular aerobic activity results in the faster processing of glucose in the individual's body which leads to lower blood sugar levels. If you do not know, obesity is directly linked to deprived insulin function and high blood sugar levels. Hence, physical activity decreases the risk of obesity. It is important to know that what matters most in exercising is its intensity, not its duration. The more intense the physical activity is, the quicker the system would use up the glucose. Gradually, the intensity should be increased.
For individuals with weight problems, such as obesity or those who are underweight or overweight, only low impact aerobic activity is recommended. Aside from exercising, remember that a healthy diet is also a key factor to losing weight and staying fit. The diet must be of low-sugar and low-fat at the same time, but completely natural. Adequate amount of rest is also included in a good program as well as lots of water intake. If individuals who are trying to lose weight do not drink up enough water, the body's metabolism would be poor, the fat would be retained, and their weight would still be kept up. Ten glasses a day is recommended, more for those who have weight problems.
Remember that the proper way of losing weight does NOT imply food deprivation or strenuous exercise.

Myth 1: Working out at high intensity allows you to burn more fat. When you work out at high intensity, oxidation or burning of fat for energy is minimal. More fat is burned during moderate exercise. This is the reason why for faster weight loss, you should exercise in this so-called fat burning zone.
However, some studies have shown that alternating between high and moderate intensity exercises may allow you to burn fat more quickly. This is commonly referred to as interval training. Still, exercising at only high intensity should be avoided.
Myth 2: Take sugar before exercising to raise energy levels. When you take sugar before you exercise, you will get a quick insulin boost and, because of that, a quick boost of energy. But after this boost, your insulin levels will quickly drop, leading to faster exhaustion.
Myth 3: Gaining weight is just a natural part of aging. The reason will gain weight as we grow older is because our metabolism slows down. The reason it slows down is because of lack of physical activity. Studies have shown that exercise can raise your metabolism. Equally true is that exercise can help you maintain it as well.
Myth 4: Since its fat free you can have as much as you want. If fat were the only nutrient that caused you to gain weight, than this would be true. But the reality is that it is excess calories that causes you to get fat. Even if you cut out all fat in your diet, which you should never do, and you ingested to many calories, you would gain body fat. Period.
Myth 5: Exercising on an empty stomach allows you to burn more fat. Exercising on an empty stomach not only leads to faster fatigue, it also causes you to burn more muscle in place of fat. To burn fat efficiently, your body needs an ample supply of carbohydrates. In fact, since fat requires carbohydrates for catabolism, it said that in a sense, "fats burn in a carbohydrate flame."
Myth 6: To avoid cramping, do not drink water when you exercise. The opposite is true. In addition to muscle overuse, dehydration is also a factor in muscle cramping during exercise.
Myth 7: The best exercise for weight loss is X. Just about everyone claims that there is an ideal exercise for burning fat-- just check out the infomercials on the television. The truth is that there does happen to be an ideal exercise. It just happens to be whichever one that you like doing.
Myth 8: The longer you exercise, the more fat you burn. After a certain period of time, you burn off the carbs that are needed to help burn fat efficiently. When this happens, your body starts using muscle. Even though a small amount of fat is still being burned, more of the energy starts coming from muscle tissue. Plus the longer you exercise, the higher your risk of injury becomes.
Myth 9: Once you stop exercising, muscle will turn to fat. Muscle can no more turn to fat, as lead to gold. What does occur is that when most people stop exercising, they continue to eat the same amount of food. Since the level of physical activity has dropped, the food that was once used to fuel your exercise, is now just stored as fat.
Myth 10: Exercising your abs removes belly fat. This is probably the biggest myth out there.
And it is no doubt fueled by marketers peddling a multitude of abs contraptions on the TV. The only thing that these machines as well as sit ups do is strengthen your abs underneath the fat. Removing the fat requires, not only exercise, but also a proper diet.

Rule #5 - Stay away from candies Candies, snack foods and sweets now and then of course you can eat but do not make this a habit. Limit it to let's say once a week, for example, on Saturdays.

The amount of negative information that you come across on fat could lead one to believe that fat has no place in the human body. That is not true: fat is important. In fact, certain foods cannot be digested in the absence of fatty acids. The problem with fat is when the body has more fat than it requires. This can cause serious medical problems including cardiac disease.
If you have already fallen into the weight gain trap, there are various techniques you could use to pull yourself out. Among the more effective ways is coupling physical workouts with healthy eating. We look at the former in more detail; but first, always remember that no health plan is infallible and effects will vary from one person to the other. In this regard, getting a health checkup and medical advice from your physician is very important.
As you begin the physical fitness routine, start with a warm-up activity. Get your muscles prepared for the physical exertion that you anticipate. Warm up exercises can be done for up to 10 minutes but 5 minutes should be adequate. If you opt to skip the warm up and start the intense exercises right away, you must realize that your body tissue could be injured by the sudden burst of activity. After the warm up, gradually progress to the more strenuous exercises but this should be done in direct proportion to your current fitness level. The combustion of body fat kicks in here.
The next physical training activity you move to is weights. Weights facilitate targeted muscle training. The demands on the fore and lower limbs during weight training increases the muscles' energy demands and creates an energy vacuum that leads to the draw down of body fat to meet the need. Do not begin with weights that are too heavy. Lifting weights that are heavier than your body can handle at the time is dangerous. Advice from a physical fitness expert is required.
Once you have gone through the weights, ensure your fat loss workout includes cardio fitness routines. These exercises are viewed as the most important aspect of the fitness program.
Examples include running, swimming and cycling. Their effect continues long after they end.
Just like weight training, the rate of energy utilization increases and this draws on the extra body fat. Among fitness activities, cardio exercises burn the most calories.
At the end of the fitness routine, slow down body muscles by using light exercises. Stretch your hands and legs, turn your waist around, touch your toes from the front and side, and lean the body forwards and backwards. If you combine a
fat loss routine with a healthy diet rich in natural foods, expect to see results.
