Five Tips to Stay Fit Even During the Holidays
By Kristie ChilesThe biggest hurdle in your way when you are trying to lose weight is the Christmas and New Year holidays. You might be following a strict diet plan but these holidays can spoil it all. The meals in Christmas and New Year parties are rich in calories. So what can you do to keep a check on your weight even during these holidays? Here are five tips which you must follow if you do not intend to gain post holiday weight.
SHOW UP LATE TO THE PARTY
You can show up late in the party, after having your normal low calorie meal. This way you can prevent yourself from indulging into cookies and hot chocolate. You will feel less pressurized to gorge on junk food and other such things. However make sure that in order to do so you do not end up being rude to the host. Be careful especially when going for smaller parties.
SAY NO TO ALCOHOL
Say no to alcohol if you do not wish to gain weight. Beer and cocktails are a big hit at such holiday parties however they are rich in calories. Another thing with alcohol is that after having few drinks, your determination and resolution to say no to other food items decreases. This in turn stimulates your appetite and you might end up stuffing yourself. Occasionally you can have a drink but do not overdo it.
GET YOUR COAT AND BOOTS ON - IT'S TIME TO PLAY
Holidays are the best time to indulge in various outdoor activities. Playing in the snow can be fun and it can also burn lot of calories. Sledding and snowball fight can also help you in losing those extra calories.
GET IN THE CAR - IT'S TIME TO GO TO THE MALL
You can visit the shopping malls if the weather isn't too cold. You can buy gifts for your loved ones and at the same time burn some calories. For example do not use the escalator, take the stairs instead. You can also make a number of rounds around the shopping mall. Remember this even when you are at parties. Try not to sit at one place for too long, keep moving. Christmas caroling is one great way to spread the holiday cheer. It also gives you an opportunity to walk around and have fun.
FOOD GIFT ITEMS - A BIG NO-NO!
You should totally avoid food gift items. Even if you receive a box of chocolates or brownies, you can always share them. You can either take them into work or give away to the food bank. So if you follow these tips, you are not going to gain weight even when you are surrounded by cakes and sugarplums, dancin' in your head!
