1. Never crash diet - People assume that if they eat just 1 meal per day they will lose excess body fat.

But the problem is such kind of dieting will affect metabolism rate. If metabolism rate drops, your weight loss will drop too! So this strategy isn't likely to do you any good in the long run.

2. Don't neglect sleep - Sleep is important for health. You should at least have a minimum amount of healthy sleep in order to remain fit. If you neglect sleep, then it may have an effect even on your weight and fitness.

3. Don't neglect stress - Stress can also lead to weight gain. Stress can make us weak, inactive, lead to unhealthy food choices and even overeating. This kind of behavior initiated by stress can cause weight problems.

4. Don't eat while standing - In earlier days, people didn't eat while standing or walking. You could see their obesity levels were really low.

A person's body is a wonderful machine and does wonderful things. It breathes automatically. It changes food we eat into living tissue. It creates the growth of flesh, blood, bones and teeth. And it even has an automatic thermostat that will keep our body temperature at a perfect 98.6pF.

But, it does one thing better than all others...it tries to protects itself from harm or injury each and every hour of the day.

So, when people look to lose weight and their first inclination is to cut down on the foods they have been putting into their body, they are sabotaging themselves.

Less food does not always equal more weight loss.

As people age, gravity takes over. Parts that used to be north of the belt line have started to commute south taking on a shape of their very own. As the heavier one gets, the slower the body's metabolism becomes.

Skipping meals and eliminating food are common habits many people mistakenly use in their quest for a better figure. Unortunately, this flawed thought process will only create a downward spiral towards weight gain.

Your body mass index is the is the medical method of working out whether your weight is healthy. It is worked out by using your height and weight data. BMI (body mass index) is worked out dividing your weight in kilograms by your height in metres. The exact formula is as follows:

Weight (in pounds) x 704.5 divided by Height (in inches) x Height (in inches).

Here is how to work out whether your BMI is healthy or not:

If your BMI is 19 to 24.9 you have a healthy weight.
If your BMI is 25 to 29.9 you are considered to be overweight and may incur moderate health risks.
If your BMI is 30+ you are considered to be obese. Obesity is linked to increased risk of cancer, heart disease and other health problems.

Teenagers are not spared from the problems of obesity. In fact, the number of teens suffering from this condition is increasing every year. But then again, teens have this mindset which tells them that anything bigger than size 6 is fat. Blame it all on false advertising and the intense popularity of skinny models. This is the reason why quick weight loss for teens is devised. It would help them greatly to easily reach their ideal weight.

Teens find it easier to lose weight than adults do because of just one thing - motivation. For some reason, teens are more challenged to reduce their body weight because they want to be popular in school, be accepted by their peers, or get noticed by the boy she likes. While these are shallow motivations, they have contributed greatly in a teen's quest to losing weight.

However, many of a teenager's fats are baby fats. These are the type that they'll outgrow in time. While there is no need to exercise or cut out on food to get rid of them, some teens are simply in a hurry to take them out of their bodies.

Don't reduce yourself to sticks and matches just like that. Losing 10 pounds on the first month is an achievement enough. Don't overdo yourself to the extent that you're losing too much on the nutrition that your body needs to survive.

Also, remember cutting out on food is not the only thing you should do to lose weight. You should exercise during your free time too. Eat as much healthy foods as you like. Just burn it off during the mornings with a long walk to the park or by jogging for an hour.

Teens should be open with their moms and dads when it comes to losing weight. More than anything, they have to get their parent's support. And oftentimes, it is necessary to solicit their help too. You can't lose weight on your own. You have to involve all your family members so they would know what you're trying to do and do their shares in helping you achieve your goal.

More than anything, teens should consult with their respective health experts when they want to lose weight drastically. This is especially true for obese teens, as it is very important to regulate your body's nutritional needs while cutting out on carbohydrates and other food groups.
All teens should change their negative thoughts about their bodies. Sometimes, even the best quick weight loss for teens is not essential. All they really have to do is to think and feel that they're beautiful and it would show off in their personality. Be confident in yourself and stop measuring beauty according to your dress size.

Many women find themselves in a dilemma after giving birth, when the desire to lose the extra weight they have gained is in contradiction to the health needs required for breast feeding.

So many women are still conditioned to the idea that "eating for two" is fine while pregnant, then find themselves with extra pounds after the birth that they were not expecting. It is important to recognize that, if breastfeeding, the mother is still providing nourishment for two even after the baby has been born. While the urgency to lose weight seems difficult to overcome, it is reassuring to note that the female body is a remarkable piece of work, and the act of breastfeeding itself actually aids in shrinking the uterus after giving birth.

When trying to lost post baby weight, the breastfeeding mother must be sure to maintain proper nutrition levels to assure that the infant is getting its daily levels of vitamin and mineral requirements met. Of course, the prenatal ob/gyn will be able to assist with charts and diet plans that will help the new mother lose weight while breastfeeding. Furthermore, most new moms are shocked to find out that they actually have to maintain a higher level of calories than they would expect, again to assure proper weight gain for the baby, because the baby will absorb so many calories during feeding. Again, allowed to work its magic, the female body knows what its doing and is well designed to return to pre-pregnancy status as soon as possible after the birth of a child.

There is really little need for active dieting after giving birth for the breastfeeding mother, as the baby absorbs so many calories during feeding. The key to successful weight loss will be in maintaining healthy eating habits, fortified with plenty of fruits and vegetables and staying away from sugar and fat filled snacks.

When making meal plan decisions, also be sure to select healthier food items, such as whole grain breads and pastas, and low-fat milk and yogurt - if your doctor agrees that low-fat products are appropriate for your post pregnancy dietary needs. In some cases, many doctors will advise against low-fat foods while breastfeeding to help maintain healthy weight gains for the baby.

Most important for the breastfeeding mother to remember is to stay hydrated. Your doctor will advise and recommend drinking a large glass of water before and after every time you feed the baby. Don't neglect this important step. All new mothers find that the feeding requirements of a breastfed baby are much more frequent than they anticipated, and it is very easy for you and your baby to become dehydrated.

The best advice for accomplishing weight loss after pregnancy is to adopt a routine exercise program, rather than concentrating on dieting. In this way, you will regain your stamina and muscle tone, burn excess calories, and if you can take your new baby along on your daily walk or jog, you can also help build daily activity habits that you and your new child can share for years to come.

If you want to find out how to get rid of fat more effectively, you need to dismiss some of the commonly-believed misconceptions about fat loss.

One of the myths is that you have to do cardio training first thing in the morning when your stomach is empty. The truth is, it really does not matter what time of the day you exercise. We all burn fat when your calorie consumption exceeds your level of intake.

Another myth is that you have to do cardio and target a fat-burning "zone." In fact, training this way does not work much on your muscles, and therefore you do not get to burn fat effectively. The best method to be applied is interval training, as doing so allows you to continue to burn calories even hours after your workout.

Next, don't believe that you have to exercise really intensely to achieve results. Everyone has a different body type and physical limitation. Research has shown that exercising at medium intensity for over 30 minutes at a time will produce the best fat losing result. You need to try a few different workouts to find out the optimal one for yourself.

Now, turning to the dieting part, the biggest myth is that the less you eat the more fat you are going to lose. This is not totally wrong, but the fact is that you do not have to sacrifice the fun with eating to stay fit. You can simply eat to your satisfaction, but the key is to eat more frequently and in smaller portions each time. That way, you tend to feel fuller throughout the day, and therefore you do not tend to crave or binge. Moreover, your metabolism will be kept up, which is very important if you would like a body that is not prone to put on fat.

There are more reasons why fewer calorie intake is not always good. One, your body tends to adjust to this lower calorie intake level by slowing down metabolism, which will in turn slow down your pace to lose further fat. Second, you need enough nutrients to do exercises effectively, as you can only achieve the best result quickly by combining diet with exercises. Try to get over 50 percent of your calories from fresh fruit and veggies, and always go for organic food and food that are in their most natural states. Avoid canned food, junk food and other processed food as much as possible.

As different people have different body conditions, there are always different answers to how to get rid of fat the right way. However, as long as you understand the essential elements to stay fit, you will be on the right track. One last warning is that you should take your moves gradually, as this tends to give you more long-term benefits.

How to Tell What Makes You Fat

The idea that eating fats will make you fat is a basic mistake. For most people, excess insulin makes them fat and not the fat itself. Where does excess insulin come from? At what age are you susceptible to be cursed with excess insulin?

Whether you are ten years old or an adult, you need to understand what the glycemic index is.
It's not too difficult a thing to learn. You eat carbohydrates, meaning starches such as bread, crackers, rice, corn and potatoes. These foods release sugars into our system and keep our bodies going. Processed carbohydrates, like cereal from boxes, flour products, candy bars, power bars, digest as sugars that get dumped into your bloodstream fairly quickly. In fact, the higher a food resides on the glycemic index, the faster it will release its sugars. In order to regulate your insulin levels, make sure that you are eating foods from the lower end of the glycemic. This pretty well eliminates fast foods and junk foods.

Complex carbohydrates such as multi-grain sprouted breads, beans and legumes, as examples, are foods that are not processed. They are left alone to be eaten as nature made them. They are full of vitamins and minerals and digest with the sugars releasing more slowly into your system. This requires less insulin to regulate the sugar levels in your blood.

When you eat processed carbohydrates that transform quickly into sugars, more insulin is needed to regulate your blood sugar. Eventually your body gets used to the high insulin levels, and ignores the insulin. This is called insulin resistance. Once you advance into this stage of metabolism, it is much easier to gain weight, and much harder to lose weight.

A couple of decades ago, this was considered a middle-aged condition, or an elderly condition, leading to Adult Onset Diabetes. Not any more!

Notice the word fat has nothing to do with any of this!

You may have heard someone lamenting "I have slow metabolism, so I cannot stay thin!". This is a result of eating the wrong sugars, not from eating fat. White sugar used to be the no-no. Now it is high fructose corn syrup, which overwhelms our bodies and makes us crave more carbs.
Even worse, the calorie-free artificial sweeteners also make us crave carbs!

Is this some kind of trap?

Let's get back to fats, which are present in fresh, unprocessed, real foods made by nature. Meats, fish, vegetables, nuts, seeds, dairy products, eggs, and oils. FATS!

"Essential fatty acids, in a ratio of two (omega 3) to one (omega 6) and at levels of about twelve to fifteen percent of total caloric intake, increase the rate of metabolic reaction in the body. This increased rate burns more fat into carbon dioxide, water and energy (heat), which results in fat burn-off and a loss of excess weight." - Udo Erasmus, author of "Fats That Heal Fats That Kill".

You mean you can eat food that "results in fat burn-off and a loss of excess weight"? That is what this, and other doctors such as Al Sears, state. Dr Atkins of the Atkins Diet fame spread the same information.

Think back to the last time you made a major decision - actually, it doesn't have to be a major decision - any decision will do that you can recall. Midday walks can still be as good as early morning or late afternoon walks. This would actually give you more time for your family as well.

4. You can still eat your treats. But this time, instead of eating a large portion of chocolate cake, grab an apple for dessert. How about a fruit salad? Getting rid of your tummy flab problem does not have to mean giving up on your sweets altogether. Substitution is the key.
