Instead of struggling with your weight constantly, you can lose pounds and have fun at the same time. If you incorporate hiking into your life, you get the bonus of seeing lots of beautiful sights while burning calories.

If you thinking hiking might be for you, it would be a good idea to get some basic equipment. Next to the eyes, a nice, toned set of abs has been called the man's sexiest body part by women in surveys. But how do you achieve it?
Best is to achieve it through a four-pronged attack plan.
In any battle, you know that the best way to attack the enemy is to attack him on all fronts. The same goes for abdominal fat. Why neglect any weapon in your arsenal when you don't have to?
This is especially in light of the fact that abdominal fat can be some of the trickiest to get rid of. Especially in men, this is the area were fat is most likely to be stored first.
However, it is also possible for women to get a potbelly. Especially after pregnancy, the stomach, along with the hips and thighs, are prime fat storage areas.
But how to flatten the stomach? Remember our four-pronged approach. Our four weapons consist of the following:
1. A sensible diet. This need not be starvation. however, you must take in fewer calories than you burn if you wish to lose any fat.
One good tip is to drink plenty of water. While this can increase your need to take bathroom breaks, it can help you feel more full. To avoid losing that feeling of fullness after you go to the bathroom, I advise sipping water throughout the day.
2. Aerobics. This is necessary because, to lose a pound of fat, you need to burn 3500 more calories than you take in. Aerobics can be any kind of activity you enjoy, walking, running, swimming, bicycling, basketball or tennis. Any activity that gets the heart beating for lease 30 minutes a day.
3. Weight training. Yes, weight training. If you want a flat stomach, men and women alike, this is important. Why? Because muscle is more metabolically active than fat. It burns calories even when we sleep. So, putting on lean body tissue is important. For every pound of fat that you replace with muscle, you end up burning dozens of extra calories a day.
Weight training need not be difficult, and workouts can take as little as 20 minutes. The American College of Sports Medicine recommends strength training two or three times a week.
4. Abdominal training. You may have heard that it is impossible to "spot reduce;" that is, to reduce fat only on one area of the body by exercising that particular area. This is true, which is why I recommend are four-pronged approach.
However, abdominal training is still important, because strengthening the abdominal wall helps to hold in the internal organs, and even helps with the process of digestion and elimination through the wavelike contractions of the abdominals. Furthermore, developing the abdominal muscles can result in a stomach that is less likely to poke outwards.
A flat stomach, men and women, is attainable. Just follow this four-part plan and see results.

There is a limit on how far you should go in reducing your intake of calories. A large reduction in your calorific intake can result in your system adopting starvation mode, which means it stores fat ! A modest reduction in your calorific intake combined with an exercise program can lead to a dramatic decrease in your weight and belly !
Regular walks, runs, swims or bike rides are the sort of cardiovascular exercises you need for weight loss. Weight resistance exercises should also be used on alternative days to help to tone and strengthen your muscles. Your local gym would advise you what exercise routine would be best for you.
The combination of gym and road work will make your fat belly a thing of the past.
Your diet should never include soda drinks, junk food or anything else with a high sugar or fat content.What should be the mainstay of your new lifestyle are fruit, vegetables and fish.
Don't view this shift in your lifestyle as a huge task, take it one step at a time, modest exercise and the right diet will have physical and psychological effects that you can hardly imagine.

People ask me this question as I have successfully managed to attain my target weight after having spent the majority of my life as some what of a porker! This is me taking the "mickey" out of myself as I am fully aware of just how obese I really was.
In my opinion there are three main ways to lose weight:
1. Cut down on your overall food intake, especially of those food types that we know are full of fat such as take aways.
2. Cut down on food and exercise more.
3. Eat the same amount of food as you regularly do but to increase the amount you exercise.
As a person who loves his food I went for the third option. I have to admit that I have never really enjoyed exercising and my chosen fitness regime entirely consisted of walking my dog! So how many walks per day are required? How long should each walk be? How fast should I be walking? Well each and every person is different and it would be a good idea to seek medical advice before commencing any form of exercise program. In general however the more the better is without doubt likely to bring the best weight loss results.
I personally take my lovely dog Cassie on five walks per day, they each last for around thirty minutes and I walk at what I would call an average pace, the dog does like to have "a sniff around" after all.

You know how many calories are in those fast food hamburgers and milkshakes. Here's another reason to stop being a fast food junkie. There's way too much salt in all that fast food, too.
According to a new report from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, or CDC, about 70 percent of American adults would benefit from a low-sodium diet. But even though we should be getting about 1,500 milligrams of salt, the report says many of us are gobbling up 3,500 milligrams of salt. Too much salt can equal high blood pressure and heart problems.
So where's all that extra salt coming from? According to the CDC, most of it's coming from processed and fast foods - the same stuff that can make you fat. Take it from a former fatty! I once weighed more than 200 pounds, and fast food was a great way to feed my addiction! So add a dangerous new health threat of heart disease to the dangers of obesity to your list of reasons to stay away from fast food. And guess what? Candy bars won't fix your bank account, or make you feel better about this economy, either. The recent headline in the New York Times was: "When Economy Sours, Tootsie Rolls Soothe Souls." When the economy goes down, candy sales go up, the newspaper reported.
"Sugar is comforting," one candy buyer told the newspaper. If you're a fatty, like I was, there's not much comfort in looking in the mirror after you eat those candy bars. I was addicted to overeating and weighed in at more than 200 pounds. Did I use a bad economy or those so-called "healthy" new fast food menu items as my excuse? Nope. I didn't need an excuse. I ate when I was broke, when I had money, when I was sad and when I was happy. If I ate a "healthy" salad, I made sure to pour hundreds of calories worth of fattening dressings on top. Candy? I loved the stuff. But here's what happened.
I made the decision that I didn't want to be fat anymore. If you think you're addicted to overeating, let your mirror be your proof. Now I'm no longer fat, and I love it. I'm not afraid of looking in mirrors, and I don't think up dumb excuses to start overeating again. I quit. You can, too.

Running For Weight Loss - How to Lose Weight Fast

Of course, there are right and wrong ways to lose weight running. That's not to say that any kind of running won't work, because it will. However, some ways are faster than others.
Vary your speeds
One thing to avoid is just going at a constant speed the entire workout. Yes, you will still drop the pounds, but not nearly as fast as if you change up your speeds. The reason is, you only burn calories while running, and as soon as the workout ends, the calorie burning stops as well.
The way to do it is to vary your speeds, and not just go at the same speed the whole time. This way, you will actually continue burning calories for as many as eighteen hours following your workout. You can't beat that.
Part of the workout has to be sprinting. After you do this briefly, now do lower intensity exercising, either by just jogging or even walking. Continue following this method of speeding up, then slowing down, speeding up, slowing down, etc.
When sprinting you don't have to go any longer than ten seconds and then follow this with lower intensity for half a minute. You should probably try this pattern for roughly six minutes, and then have a two minute break.
This will help you maximize your results. Do this process three times, meaning your workout will be just under a half hour.
This method not only makes it easier to loss weight but also more fun. After all, who wants to just go at the same speed for a half an hour straight?
This can get particularly boring if you are just using a treadmill and staring at the wall the whole time. Varying your speeds will keep you interested regardless of whether you are working out indoors or outdoors.
Foods to eat
However, to go along with running for weight loss, don't forget that healthy eating is critically important as well. The only way you will lose weight is by losing more calories than you are taking in; if you follow this workout by eating a half pound burger, you will probably still lose weight but not nearly as fast as if you watched your diet.
What kinds of foods should you eat? Whole grains, fruits and veggies are always great, and I would strongly recommend you stay away from meat and dairy products as much as possible.
Once in a while is okay, but too much will hinder your efforts as well as your overall heath. If you need to, having one junk food day a week will minimize the damage.
Also, make sure to jot down everything you consume in a journal, and keep this up for two to three weeks; often times looking at the foods you eat will make it much more obvious the areas you need to change.
Many people have no idea what they've eaten over the past several weeks, so seeing it written out could come as quite a shock, which is often a good thing. If you do follow these running for weight loss tips and eat healthy, you will maximize your efforts and will start dropping the pounds very quickly.

Why You Gain Weight
Let's demystify weight management. In general it's pretty straightforward but in specific everyone needs to personalize a program to their needs. This is not a cop out - it's just to say everyone's body chemistry is a little different and the individual needs to take general principles and translate them into a personalized program.
It's true what some companies say - "diets don't work" BUT they don't tell you why. First, because you can't stick to them (ex: grapefruit diet) - so you roller coaster; second most programs don't come with support - people lose, maintain or gain weight best if they have a support system, usually a coach they can talk to- not friends or your partner/spouse. Third, the person really isn't serious. Real, sustainable results take time - talk is cheap. An ounce of commitment is worth a pound of promises - stick to it!
You eat healthy now and can't lose weight - take a look at what you eat (be honest). Example low fat yogurt. While the term "low" is relative anything that says low fat means that its high in sugars and vis versa or take salads, ever see someone get a salad and then put a ton of dressing on top or the person who gets a burger and fries and then a has a Diet Coke to "cut" calories - the list goes on. Here's what a good eating program looks like:

Here's the math of why we all gain weight. Under the American Diet an average number of calories consumed daily = 4,000. The average number of calories need to maintain the body = 2,000. Net waistline growth per day = 2,000 calories. WOW!
This doesn't into account the effect of the lower nutritional value of those calories that you take in from food processing. Example: the pasteurization process that milk goes through kills all the bacteria BOTH good and bad. By killing the good bacteria they destroy most of the nutritional value and the flavor of milk. A slightly lower temperature would kill the bad and leave the good but it's a little more expensive so dairy processing companies don't use it. You can't tell me that an out of season hothouse tomato tastes anything like one right off the vine. "Organic" or otherwise makes no difference. It's the processing.
Weight Loss Myths
When it comes to losing weight we all have our own stories - let's walk through the BIG myths:
It's all about Calories - NO. Unhealthy weight loss is all about calories. HEALTHY weight loss is about Nutrition. You do need lower calories in relation to how much activity you have BUT it needs to be balanced or you will go hungry all the time and cheat. Also, don't fall for those commercials of eating packaged foods and getting ripped abs - won't happen.
It's all about exercise - NO. Exercise is a complement not a substitute for fewer calories.
Exercise is for toning and shaping muscles and it takes a LOT of exercise to burn calories. Do not fall for equipment commercials that tell you 20 minutes a day of a routine workout get you those muscles - takes lots of exercise with the right diet, usually much higher in lean protein.

Research and try out new and different recipes from different places. Experiment with new flavours and new spices. Jazz up an old favourite by adding a dash of curry. In short, add some adventure to this element of life as well.
Change your thinking and look at eating in a new and different light. Let it be about discovering and savouring something new and different. Listen to your body, eat when you are hungry and stop when you are comfortably full. Remember that eating can indeed be a pleasure without excessive indulgence.
